Privacy Policy
Plain-language summary: Mono collects no personal data. Everything you do in the app stays on your device. No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no servers. The only network activity is your in-app purchase, which is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
Contents
1. Who we are
Mono is developed and published by Paras Vishwakarma ("we", "us", "our"). Contact: parasvishwa@gmail.com.
The app is distributed through the Google Play Store (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS).
2. Data we do not collect
We do not collect, store on our servers, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or any account identifier
- Device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID, IDFA, etc.)
- Location data
- Usage analytics or crash reports sent to us
- Contents of your notifications
- The list of apps installed on your device
- Any biometric or health data
- IP addresses or browsing history
The app makes no network requests. It does not contain any third-party analytics SDK (no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Sentry, etc.).
3. What is stored locally on your device
The following data is written to the app's private, sandboxed storage on your device only:
| Data | Purpose | Cleared when |
|---|---|---|
| Blocklist | Which apps to block during Deep Work | You remove them or uninstall |
| Pinned apps | Apps shown in your minimal dock | You remove them or uninstall |
| Muted apps | Apps whose notifications you silenced | You unmute or uninstall |
| Pomodoro settings | Work/break durations, dice mode | Uninstall |
| Focus schedule | Days and times for automatic sessions | You disable or uninstall |
| Strict mode & PIN | Whether early exit requires a PIN | You disable or uninstall |
| Session statistics | Minutes worked, sessions, blocks dodged | Uninstall |
| Notification digest | Titles of notifications caught during sessions — shown to you at session end, then cleared when dismissed | You dismiss the digest, or session limit exceeded, or uninstall |
| Pro unlock status | Whether Mono Pro has been purchased | Uninstall or revoked by store |
None of this data can be accessed by us. It is not backed up to the cloud unless your device's OS-level backup (Android Auto Backup / iCloud backup) is enabled by you.
4. Android permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Usage Access (AppOpsManager) | Detects the moment a blocked app becomes foreground so you can be returned to the launcher. The data is checked in real time and never stored or transmitted. |
| Notification Listener | Captures notification titles during a focus session to build the end-of-session digest. Content stays on device and is discarded after you dismiss the digest. |
| Do Not Disturb access | Silences calls and alerts during Deep Work at your request. Restored automatically when the session ends. |
| Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) | Brings the Mono overlay over a blocked app to redirect you back to your work. Only active during a focus session. |
| FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Keeps the blocking service running while you are in a session. Required to prevent Android from killing it in the background. |
| MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS | Controls focus audio (brown noise / rain / lo-fi) playback. Pro feature, opt-in. |
| CHANGE_CONFIGURATION (grayscale) | Applies system-level grayscale during focus sessions. Restored when the session ends. |
| QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES | Mono is a launcher. It must enumerate installed apps so you can pin, block, or mute them. The list is used locally only and never leaves your device. |
| READ_PHONE_STATE | Detects repeat callers so Priority DND can let emergency calls through. Not stored. |
5. iOS permissions and entitlements
| API / Entitlement | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Family Controls (Screen Time API) | Applies kernel-level app shields during Deep Work sessions. This is Apple's official API for parental and self-control app blocking. No data leaves the device. |
| ManagedSettings framework | Used together with Family Controls to define which apps are shielded per session. |
| DeviceActivity framework | Monitors session start/end times to apply and release shields automatically. |
| Siri Shortcuts (AppIntents) | Allows you to trigger Deep Work from Shortcuts or Focus Modes. No data is sent to Apple beyond what Shortcuts normally handles. |
| StoreKit (In-App Purchases) | Processes the Mono Pro subscription via Apple's payment infrastructure. We receive only a non-identifiable confirmation of purchase status. |
Mono on iOS does not replace the home screen (Apple does not permit this). It operates as a Screen Time companion app.
6. In-app purchases
Mono offers one optional purchase: Mono Pro (annual subscription, $3.49/year or ₹179/year in India).
- All payment processing is handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We never see your payment card details.
- We receive only a cryptographic receipt confirming that the purchase is valid for your account. No personal or financial data is transmitted to us.
- Subscriptions auto-renew annually. You can cancel at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings before the renewal date.
- Refund requests are subject to Apple's or Google's refund policies.
7. Children
Mono is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. If a child uses the app, no data is collected regardless, because the app collects no data from anyone.
8. GDPR (European users)
The General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 applies to EU residents. Because Mono does not collect or process any personal data, it does not act as a data controller or processor in relation to personal data. There is no personal data to access, correct, delete, or port.
If you have questions about your rights under GDPR, contact us at parasvishwa@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. CCPA (California users)
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives California residents rights regarding personal information. Mono does not sell personal information. Mono does not collect personal information. Accordingly, CCPA opt-out rights do not apply, because there is nothing to opt out of.
10. Data retention
All data created by the app is retained on your device for as long as the app is installed. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all data. We have no copy of it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy (for example, to add optional cloud sync), we will:
- Update the effective date at the top of this page
- Post a notice in the app update release notes
- Ensure any new data collection is opt-in
Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
